This time three years ago, I began falling deeply, madly and passionately in love with the man who is now my husband.
At the time, we were co-workers and friends who spent a lot of time flirting, talking, laughing. I would tell him about my family and dreams of having a career I loved. And he would talk to me about his two children and his hobby of woodcarving. One day, he asked me if I would like an ornament for my Christmas tree. He would carve it himself. Just for me.
I said of course; I would love one.
A few days later, he brought it to work and presented it to me. I found a very special spot for it on my tree that year and also found a special spot in my heart for him. Soon enough, we would share a slice of my mom’s cherry pie and would become inseparable. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t fall more in love with him.
So, this Sunday’s Savoir-faire item is my beloved ornament carved by the man who holds my heart. I will always enjoy unearthing this precious piece of our relationship each Christmas season; it’s a reminder of those first touches, knowing smiles, and 3-hour-long phone calls that marked the beginning of our journey together.
